It's just not your day.

Run. I say run because kids these days have to. They run from society, school, their parents, and even themselves. Why? Well the question itself is complicated because there never is a correct answer, so then what's the answer to help these individuals from others and make things less complicated. Society can make things less complicated if it chose to, keeping high standards of how things should be is what is causing these dilemas and let me tell you, bullying which is a social conflict of today has increased in the past years and have continuously hurt students mentally and physically. From a source statistics show that, one in four kids in the U.S. are bullied on a regular basis. This means that friends, family members, and those we see all around us may be victims or even the bully themselves whether they admit to the situations or not. In a recent SAFE survey, teens in grades sixth through 10th grade are most likely to be involved in activities related to bullying. About 30% of students in the United States are involved in bullying on a regular basis either as a victim, or bully or even both. It is stated from that same source that verbal bullying is used throughout no matter what, 77% of all students being bullied verbally in some way or another including mental bullying or even verbal abuse. These statistics aren't the only ones, there are obviously many more that have higher numbers, but what is pathetic is that we say we all are united as well as equal; then why are kids at an early stage being told that they aren't as good as others, why are kids of larger sizes or those that are more confident taking advantage of those that are insecure about themselves? Where are the authorities? While keeping those questions in mind, I want to bring to your attention that nowadays, bullying is taking place over technology and the commonly used is the internet, it's now called cyberbullying. Cyberbullying is defined to be when a child or teenager is harassed, humiliated, embarrassed, threatened or tormented using digital technology. This is not limited to the Internet; cyber bullying also encompasses bullying done through such things as text messages using cell phones. Regardless of what it may mean teenagers still go around throwing their words around for people to see, which is harmful to those that see. According to Cyber bullying statistics from the i-SAFE foundation: Over 25% of adolescents and teens have been bullied repeatedly through their cell phones or the Internet, and well over half of young people do not tell their parents when cyber bullying occurs and if you weren't aware mean, hurtful comments and spreading rumors are the most common type of cyber bullying. To my understanding, bullying isn't the way to solve internal problems you must be aware that others have the same feelings and are going through similar situations, by saying things that will crack their shell won't do you any benefit in the long run. The only thing that you have accomplished is, hurting one more person in the world, creating social standards that seem to mean a lot and have created issues in society, and you might've created a whole bunch of guilt as well as consequences for yourself. If something were to go wrong with the person that you didn't intend to hurt that bad, because in some cases there are deaths, family members are lost and even if you didn't mean to be so vulgar, you sure as well did a good job as expressing your hateful thoughts towards them when they were around. So, ultimately what I'm trying to say is that, if you have nothing nice to say don't say it. Many have scars, wounds and some aren't even around anymore due to some situations and weren't strong enough to handle the pain. In order to rid such situations we have to come together, accept one another, and befriend each other.

Can you see it in the dark...

Racism. We’ve come a long way to be where we are, black men and women have finally gotten equality by law, Asians and other races are no longer looked upon as if they aren’t worthy, but the real question is, is racism still occurring in today’s society but often hushed by people to show that this country stands as one? When I was in my sociology class a question was brought to our attention and it gave me some motivation to look into things a little deeper than others would. Racism is still here and living in the lives of many Americans, whether we acknowledge it or not. A recent event that showed racism still exists is the Trayvon Martin case. There are two sides of the case one of course is the truth and the other just so happens to be something made up and people have believed it because of fear.  Those of you that don’t know Martin let me tell you a little about him.  Trayvon Martin was a 17 year old African American boy. Martin went out to a local 7/11 in Sanford, Florida to get, “skittles and iced tea.”  Little that Martin knew later that night he would die a brutal death for no apparent reason.  He was killed by a 28 year old man named George Zimmerman who was a neighborhood watch personnel.  As Martin was walking back from the 7/11 to his father’s fiancĂ©’s house, Zimmerman was on watch that night in the neighborhood.  But since Martin lost his way home he started going back and forth through streets and looking at addresses of the houses to find his way back and that is when Zimmerman had spotted the victim.  In this case there are many interpretations of moving around up and down the streets. Zimmerman’s interpretation of an African American boy like Martin wandering around at a late hour was suspicious and the boy was “up to no good”.  So Zimmerman reported to the police that he found a doubtful suspect.   The dispatcher responded to Zimmerman, “Ok, but don’t engage.”  Zimmerman responded, “Ok,” and engaged at the time he was carrying a gun with him, even though he was clearly told not to do anything because it wasn’t necessary. Police also shared information that Zimmerman called in many times reporting a suspicious African American before the martin case.  Zimmerman still on the line with the dispatcher was asked by the dispatcher if he was following the teen. When Zimmerman replied he was following the teen, the dispatcher said, “We don’t need you to do that.” Zimmerman hung up and confronted Martin. Later that night, Zimmerman told his story that Martin came out of nowhere and attacked from behind when he was just about to get into his SUV.  Zimmerman quoted to the police, “[Martin] banged my head on the ground.” Because of this statement, the criminal was released and was able to roam the streets freely even after killing a harmless person. Its funny how Zimmerman was let off so easily, in other cases if black men or even women were to be in the position of Zimmerman they wouldn’t even be given bail for being charged murder. Fortunately, Martin’s parents were not satisfied with the court’s decision and that’s what brought justice to Martin’s case later on. Protesters had gathered to support the family and their decision knowing that Martin had not done anything to harm the man and they were given another trial to relook the case once again. When the court went through evidence again they had talked to Martin’s girlfriend who happened to be talking to Martin while the violence was taking place, DeeDee now identified as Martin’s girlfriend had stated, “I heard what happened that night before the line went dead.” Cell phone reports show the girl told the truth which proved she heard the scuffle, between Zimmerman and Martin. This proves that Zimmerman had lied to the court and was still let off, why so? Well only those that had made the decision in the first place can tell us why, but because of this case there are new issues within society today such as growing racial tension and if the new "stands your ground" law in Florida is really convenient and logical to all. But the question pestering all is why Zimmerman was let off so easily without much evidence, and even if we critically analyze evidence and say it was a mistake and the case was overlooked at first unfortunately but eventually justice finally was acquired, do some Americans still hide a racist side to them but don’t acknowledge it?

Yo! Make me a sandwhich!

Now you may be thinking what's with the title, am I correct? Well, lately I've been thinking about articles, magazines and books that tell women how she should be like through the man's perspective. And if you haven't noticed but all these articles and magazines are owned by men with power who make a certain image of women and so when others see those images they feel, in order to be beautiful they must be seen as that person/ image in the eyes of men. It's common to see women dive for attention from men; which is exactly why they dress the way they dress, yes men don't tell ladies to dress provocative but in order to gain attention if any, then they must. Whether a man admits to such deeds or not, they are the reason as to why women try to be a certain way according to females. As for being a gentleman myself I don't have many expectations from a lady, in fact she doesn't have to dress where her body is revealing, but if she does, that's her choice. Her judgment. I chose this topic because many girls blame men for the way they dress and behave within society, and I disagree. I think that any girl is capable to make her decisions, influenced by society or not, it's still her choice. She needs to decide whether or not what she is doing is right or wrong, if she is comfortable and if that's the image she wants of herself. Yet many girls say that they are forced to be the way they are otherwise they wouldn't be considered anything. That's absolutely false. As for being a male myself, yes I do judge a girl by what I see at first but as time goes on I am able to get pass her appearance and accept her for who she really is, and even if looks do matter in the beginning there is no reason to expose body parts that shouldn't be displayed within society. Now the controversy is, is it really a man's world or are women just making the wrong decisions?
